Okay for anynonnies who are still trailing along in the wake and not caught up (or FINISHED!!!), let's do ch 54 for NEXT weekend - that is, I will post the discussion post on or around 29 February. The original schedule post is updated, and I'm reposting here for the sake of convenience.

How is everyone doing? Caught up? Need another week? Need another week? FLINGING YOUR FLUKES UP IN DESPAIR?

Shipmates, I don't know where you're at but I am adrift on a still sea of being about 20 chapters behind. Therefore by the authority vested in me by my modly powers I'm declaring this catch up week. We can regroup this weekend and see where everyone is/if an additional week is needed. (I will update the schedule as soon as I am near a real computer.)

Worry not shipmates! At least I am not a mercurial tunnel-visioned authoritarian pursuing an impossible goal with little chance of success! And I have both my legs.

Last week I accidentally added a chapter to the reading, so some of you may be a chapter ahead. Unlike me, who is now almost 20 chapters behind. Oh well, shipmates. I'm just the pilot. Leading from the rear, so to speak.

ETA: Yes I did get the reading wrong. Again. Apologies to anyone who was confused. Again.

Not enough time for discussion on the last post, but I wanted to get back on schedule.

I am so behind on the reading.

Shipmates! My profoundest apologies for the tardiness of this post. RL got a little crazy and I totally forgot about my sacred duty. Oh well, have at 'em.

Welcome to [community profile] dickalong, a read along community for Moby Dick!

Unless a lot of people have conflicts, our first check in will be Sunday, January 11 2016. I will post a finalized schedule by Wednesday, December 23 2016. Hopefully this will give everyone enough time.

Anyone who had reservations about my initial suggestion for a pace (~50 pg/14 ch a week) please, please comment here and let me know what pace will be more feasible. I want to accommodate as many people as I can, but in looking for similar read alongs, I have found that most of them are going at our pace or usually slightly faster. So your input would be very much valued!

ETA 1: This is a total d'oh moment for me. Please let me know what your preferred pace regardless of whether or not the original suggested pace works for you. I'll probably come up with the final amount of reading by averaging everyone's preferences (so everyone will be equally unhappy), so it helps me to know how many people would prefer what.

Other miscellany:

Right now, anon is on and IP logging is off. Will you guys prefer to keep discussion anon or in namespace? (I will very probably keep anon on/IP off either way unless we start have a problem with spam, which I don't expect.)

ETA 2: If anyone wants to be a second admin for this community, please let me know! I don't anticipate that we'll need much modding, but it would be helpful to know that someone else might be here to post check-ins etc in case, heaven forbid, I need to go away or something.
